Déscription Cyanotype is an old monochrome photographic printing process which gives a cyan-blue print. The English scientist and astronomer Sir John Herschel discovered this procedure in 1842.
For this piece, I experimented printing on different type of fabric with flowers and leaves. The print was light, so I "erased" some of the blue, to define the flower more precisely; I then added some white fabric paint to brighten up some part of the flower and leaves. I stretched it around an embroidery hoop.
The circle is a calm and balanced shape. In Zen Buddhism it represents harmony and tranquility.
Hoop dimensions : 30cm - 12in diameter
I expose all my pieces in ... suite natural light. Printing on sunny days, doing everything by eye and in the most organic way possible.
Title, year and signed at the back, on the fabric, inside the hoop.
